The Four Burglars

This classic trick is accompanied by a story. Four jacks are shown to be at the top of the deck, and one by one they are placed separately into different positions. The four jacks magically return to the top.

1) Secretly remove any three cards and the four jacks.
2) Hold the jacks in a fan, with the extra three cards placed below the lowest one.
3) Begin by display4) Neatly square the cards in the left hand, being careful to hide the other cards.
5) Turn the packet of cards face down and place them on top of the deck.
6) Take the top card of the deck and, without showing its face, push it into the deck towards to bottom. Leave it protruding half its length.
7) Take the new top card and push it into the deck at the halfway point. Leave it protruding as before.
8) Repeat with the new top card, inserting it about ten cards from the top of the deck.
9) Turn the top card face up to show a jack and place it face down.
10) Slowly push all four cards neatly and squarely into the deck.
11) Dribble the cards.
12) Deal the top four cards face up to show that the jacks have all returned.
